The man in the fedora waltzed into the bank as if someone was expecting him. In his yellow tweed jacket and slacks that flopped around his ankles, he looked like he’d hopped off the train in 1947. He headed straight to the nearest teller window with no good intention in his heart.
“I need to cash my check please, ma’am,” he said to the teller, giving her a greasy smile. He produced the ruffled piece of paper from his coat pocket and slid it to the teller––an $8,000 check.
The teller asked for the man’s identification and compared it with the name written on the check. It matched, but something still wasn’t right.
“I’m in a hurry ma’am,” said the man. “You see, my dad just died and I don’t want to be late for his funeral. Could you please hurry it up?”
Any good bank teller knows when a customer tries to rush you into cashing a check it’s a big red flag. The teller called her manager over and explained to the customer there were a few extra steps they’d have to take to cash a check for that large amount.
Annoyed, the man in the tweed jacket followed the manager into his office. Five minutes later, the manager escorted him out of the bank…
