This Is the Habit That Keeps You From Getting What You Want

The timeless art of letting go and letting it happen.

When I first met my future wife back in college, I didn’t think about her much. Sure, we had some classes together and were part of the same clubs, but we hardly ever talked. As for me, I was interested in other girls. That’s probably a good thing because the best opportunities come when you aren’t trying to force them.

I wasn’t trying to get her to notice me or like me. Since I was busy being myself, I didn’t come off as needy the way guys do when they try to get a girl’s attention.

I did not have any specific outcome in mind for our relationship. That experience taught me an important lesson I’ve had to relearn many times through the years.

Your habit of clinging to a specific outcome holds you back from getting what you want.

I’m not just talking about relationships. You see that, right? When you try to control a specific outcome, you often fail because you’re trying too hard.

When you realize how often this has happened in your life, you may start trying to lower your expectations about what’s possible for you. “Manage your expectations” becomes your motto and you live with subtle disappointment in your life.
