Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated with stories.

Not just the books I like to read or the movies I like to watch. I’ve obsessed over what makes a great story — well — great.

One of the reasons humans tell stories (and love them) is because they help us understand ourselves. We can literally experience the same emotions as the characters.

When I discovered Joseph Campbell’s work and book, The Hero With a Thousand Faces, I was captivated. I felt like I’d finally found the perfect explanation for why the stories we love work.

It’s because they’re embedded in our psychology. What I mean is, there are certain character archetypes, tropes, and story structures that we relate to unconsciously.
