There are many images for sin represented in the Bible, like you said. One of the most powerful to me comes from the Hebrew and Greek words for sin.

The word “sin” in Hebrew (hata) and Greek (hamartia) are archery terms that mean “to miss the mark” or “go astray.” God sets the mark, we aim at it, but often miss the mark.
