It’s Time to Admit the End is Near

We won’t make it another decade

There’s a quote often attributed to Mark Twain: “History never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme.”

It rhymes because our society has to constantly reinvent itself to solve problems that are too big for the current order. Old systems that have outworn their utility have to be torn down and reconstructed. That’s what’s happening right now. And going through the process feels awful.

Discontent. Anger. Widespread fear.

Today’s society differ significantly from — say — the late 90s or early 2000s. But if you read history, it’s not much different than in the 1930s. For example, homes are unaffordable for the average American across 99% of the nation. Income inequality continues to rise, putting a strain on the current American system. As in the 1930s, there are questions as to whether the system can even survive in the current conditions.

There’s an underlying anxiety that things are changing — that eventually, the cracks in the dam will burst, and the resulting flood will wash away everything.

That’s exactly what will happen.
