Can We All Agree God is Dead?

Before you get mad, hear me out.

Have you noticed how much the world changed since you were a kid?

I’ve watched our world change a lot through my youth and adulthood. And the more I watch, the more I’m convinced of something that scares me to death.

God is dead.

A few years ago a movie called God’s Not Dead was all the rage in Evangelical Christian circles. The movie is about a young Christian named Shane, who goes to college and takes a course with a philosophy professor.

On the first day of class, the professor insists the students write the statement “God is dead” on a sheet of paper and sign their name to it. If they refuse, they won’t pass the class.

Shane refuses to sign the statement.

As an alternative, he’s allowed to debate the professor about the existence of God. The class will decide not only the winner of the debate but also Shane’s fate (pass or fail).

The message of the movie is that God is still alive, relevant, and in control despite what “those atheists” say.

But it’s time to wake up and face reality.

God is dead.
