Sorry, but I’m not going to tell you how to get your post boosted here on Medium.

But don’t click away just yet.

I’d like to help you by shedding some light on what you actually get from post boosted by Medium’s curators. And I’ll compare it to the benefits of a “viral” post that wasn’t boosted.

This will help you decide whether it’s worth your time to intentionally try to write a post that Medium’s editors like, or just spend more time writing and see what happens.

I’ve been writing on Medium for four years. In that time, I’ve seen several changes to how Medium promotes writer’s work.

In that time, I’ve had several posts boosted, and a few more go “viral,” (I’ll explain why I write that in quotations later).

Boosting is definitely the best ways they’ve done it, but it’s impossible to “hack” your way in. That’s by design.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of what a boosted post will get you.

Boosted Posts

Medium has tried to make their process for boosting posts clear. You can read about it here.
