#3: Don’t try too hard
- Remember you’re going to die. You think you’ll do the things you’re putting off when you get a new job, when the kids grow up, or when you get a little extra time. You postpone your dreams and tell yourself you’re making the responsible or practical choice. Meanwhile, life goes on all around you. The clock never stops. Every day counts.
- It probably doesn’t matter. Whatever choice you’re struggling with, whatever you’re overthinking right now — it probably doesn’t matter. Not all that much, anyway. Most of your decisions aren’t as important as they seem. The stuff you ruminate on won’t matter in a year, or five years, or ten at most. So make your decision and keep moving forward.
- Don’t try too hard. One of the worst positions to be in is when you need something to turn out a certain way. You direct all your energy toward a certain outcome and miss other opportunities because you’re so laser-focused on getting exactly what you want. Life is not safe, it’s dynamic and ever-changing. Don’t fear the chaos, step in and flow with it.
- Your first thoughts matter. As you’re falling asleep each night, decide what your first thoughts will be in the morning. You can wake up in peace and happiness, even during hard times. But you must decide what you want to feel before…
